Brazosport College is proud to announce BC Advantage 21 which is an exciting opportunity for the high school graduating class of 2021. This initiative is available to 2021 graduates from Brazosport College service area public and private schools, homeschools, and those students which earned their GED in 2021. Eligible students are 2021 graduates of a service area school who reside in the Brazosport College service area.

Brazosport College is covering the cost of tuition and fees for one year for 2021 graduates that enroll in degree or certificate programs at BC for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. 

Funds are applied to your account in this order: state-mandated/optional waivers, veteran affairs, financial aid, scholarships, and finally the BC Advantage 21 program funds.

Eligible students should follow the steps listed below to learn more and apply for an Allied Health Program within the Brazosport College Community Education Department.

Phlebotomy Refresher Course

For medical professionals that would like to be re-trained or re-fresh their phlebotomy skills, this is the course for you! The course provides training on current phlebotomy skills and standards that will help individuals to regain confidence in practicing phlebotomy to either prepare for re-entering the work force or to simply enhance the individual’s skill level. This class is perfect for nurses, new phlebotomists, medical assistants, practicing phlebotomists, and physicians.

Proof of successful completion of a Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training program, or professional license or certification is required as prerequisite before students can enroll into the Phlebotomy Refresher program.

Certification Exam Prep: Phlebotomy Tech

This Instructor-led exam preparation course will help students plan and prepare to take one of the national certification exams for Phlebotomy Technician. Whether planning to retake an exam or taking the exam for the first-time, this short course will be essential as it provides a review/update to the requirements associated with certification and offers strategies for taking a national certification exam.

Clinical Skills lab practices will be minimal in this course.

Medical Assistant

$2,269 | 10/18/2021 - 7/15/2022 | NUMBER OF SEATS: 18

Medical Assistants work in medical clinics and similar settings assisting physicians by performing administrative duties and handling basic clinical tasks. Often, they are the first person a patient may encounter during a medical appointment. Medical Assistants are trained in front office duties, charting, billing procedures, EKG, phlebotomy, vital signs, and other important clinical tasks. The cost of a national certification exam is included in this program.

Prerequisites for Clinical Practicum: At least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE), acceptable criminal background and completion of all state-required immunizations and CPR training. This is a blended course with both on-campus and online instruction. You will meet in person on-campus on the first class day.

Medical Assistant Refresher

This refresher course is intended for Medical Assistants who are interested in enhancing their current clinical skills, preparing for re-entry into the workforce, or preparing to renew an expired Medical Assistant Certification (expired within the last 2 years).

Proof of successful completion of a prior Medical Assistant training program or expired MA certification is required as a prerequisite before enrolling into this course.

Certification Exam Prep: Medical Assistant

This exam preparation course will help students plan and prepare to take one of the national certification exams for Medical Assistant. Allied Health Track: Certified Nurse Aide to Patient Care Assistant/Technician

$1,869 | 10/27/2021 - 4/28/2022 | NUMBER OF SEATS: 15

This program provides an opportunity for Certified Nurse Aides to earn a stacked credential. CNA license must be current, in good standing, and license holder must have at least 1 year of working CNA experience during the last 3 years (before start date of the program). Under the supervision of medical and nursing staff, Patient Care Assistants/Technicians (PCA/PCT) provide basic care in hospitals, nursing homes, urgent care centers, wound care centers, home care agencies and long term care facilities. They assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, perform EKGs, collection and testing of specimens and phlebotomy.

Medical Billing & Coding Program

The Medical Billing and Coding Program is designed to teach students the basic concepts of medical office skills, including billing for physician offices and processing medical insurance claims. The course is designed for healthcare professionals, office managers and those interested in the business aspects of healthcare. The cost of a national certification exam is included in this program.

Who is Eligible

  • You must have graduated from a Brazosport College service area high school during the 2020 - 2021 academic year or have completed your GED in 2021. This includes graduates from fall 2020 through summer 2021.
  • BC Advantage 21 is for all 2021 high school grads within BC's service area, even those that may not qualify for financial aid.
  • You must enroll in a minimum of six hours during the fall and spring semesters each academic year.
  • You must remain in good academic standing in accordance with the Satisfactory Academic Policy during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • You must live in the Brazosport College service area. This includes:

  • The program covers tuition and fees for all terms in the 2021-2022 academic year, including minimesters.
