This course is for anyone with responsibility for reviewing, developing or maintaining policies and procedures.
DescriptionIn this course, participants will learn the difference between policies and procedures, recognize when a procedure is required, and explain the importance of document management systems. Participants will become familiar with the aspects of effective written communication key components and the process of implementing policies and procedures. Examples of policy and procedure templates will be reviewed and common document management systems will be discussed.

During the class, each participant will write a short policy or procedure and review policies and procedures of others.

Course objectives:
  • Explain the difference between a policy and a procedure.
  • List four of the steps in writing effective policies and procedures.
  • With the aid of the Participant's Guide, write a policy or procedure that can be followed by others.
  • Explain the importance of following Document Management guidelines.
  • Explain the key components of effective written communication.
  • Explain the process for implementing a policy or procedure.

Pre-Work RequiredIt is recommended that participants bring background information for a policy or procedure to be written as part of the class.
