About the Small Business Development Center

Your success is important to all of us. After all, small business accounts for 99% of all U.S. businesses and employs over half the private-sector workforce. When you achieve yours goals we all win.

The University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast Small Business Development Center offers free, one-on-one professional business advising services to business owners and entrepreneurs at our 14 locations throughout Southeast Texas including at Brazosport College. The Brazosport College SBDC advising staff can assist entrepreneurs and small business owners in various stages of the business life cycle: pre-venture or early stage, startup, expansion, growth and exit.

Our Team

Jennifer Finney, Director of Brazosport College SBDC, is a native Texan and a longtime resident of Brazoria County. She earned a M.S. in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship from the University of Houston-Victoria, a BBA in Marketing from the University of Houston – Clear Lake and has an extensive background in corporate marketing. Her exceptional writing and editing skills are supplemented by her knowledge in brand communication and digital marketing, including website development, email marketing and social media strategies. In 2010, Finney and her husband owned an operated a lawn service in the Brazosport area giving her hands-on experience in running a small business. She is active in professional, church and community organizations, applying her marketing skills as a mentor and public speaker.

Danielle Stanford, a Business Advisor at the Brazosport College SBDC, moved to Lake Jackson from Milwaukee, Wisconsin in early 2015. She earned a B.A. in Marketing and Management from Alverno College. She also has personal experience running a business, as she has successfully owned and managed her own small business for the past 4 years. Prior to working for the SBDC, Ms. Stanford worked as a Freelance Marketing Consultant helping local business owners improve their online presence through Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing, Web Development and Graphic Design. Ms. Stanford’s 10 years of marketing experience combined with her love for the local small businesses in Brazoria County make her the perfect match as an Advisor at the SBDC.

Cynthia Laird is the Office Manager for the Brazosport College Small Business Development Center.  Cynthia previously worked in the Grant Administration Department of Brazosport College and began working in the SBDC in May of 2022.   Cynthia was born in Houston, Texas and has lived in and around the Texas Gulf Coast all her life. She began her illustrious career in administrative support in 1988 when she acquired her paralegal certificate.  She worked for many prestigious firms and corporations in the Houston area over the years. A notary public, she specializes in office administration support, management reporting, event planning and training program coordination. Cynthia is proudest of her organizational skills and great people skills.
