This course will enable a trainee with limited technical knowledge to learn and demonstrate how process equipment and process systems are interrelated. Laboratory exercises include operating small plants representing the following unit operations: Distillation, extraction, and waste water treatment. Trainees will require hands on skills and can be effective the first day on the job. Upon successful completion of training, the trainee will be able to:

  • Learn basic maintenance skills
  • Safely clear equipment for maintenance
  • Learn how to create and follow proper job procedures
  • Identify different types of valves, pumps, compressors and their uses
  • Identify and troubleshoot different types of instrumentation devices and their function
  • Understand basic electrical theory and how it is used in a chemical plant
  • Operate small plants representing distillation, extraction and waste water treatment
  • Explain how systems can be combined into operational processes
  • Understand the typical duties of a process operator and successfully operate a life-size distillation unit
