Phlebotomists draw blood from a patient for clinical or medical testing, transfusions or blood donations. Anyone who chooses this field should be comfortable with blood, needles, and blood vials. Students are trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods with an emphasis on safety, quality assurance, patient identification and specimen handling.

Class Schedule:
Some M/F Courses: 8:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00 A.M. - Noon
Wednesday: 8:30 A.M. - Noon
Practicum is held over the last few weeks of the program.
Upon completion, participants will receive:
- An Occupational Skills Award from Brazosport College
- Successful completers will qualify to take the national certification exam to test for the "National Certified Phlebotomy Technician" certificate
- A professional resume and basic interview skills

Eligibility Requirements
Only applicants meeting all requirements, including TABE Reading scores, filling out Allied Health Packet, passing Panel Interview with Allied Health and passing background checks will be eligible to attend orientation. NCCT Testing eligibility requirements include having a U.S. High School Diploma or Equivalency. Applicants with any college degrees (Associate's or higher) will not qualify. Applicants with "holds" on their record will not qualify unless "holds" are cleared before orientation.
No Cost to Eligible Students
All expenses are covered including costs for tuition, TABE Reading testing, background checks, loaner books, scrubs and National Certified Exam for those in the phlebotomy program.
Limited Spaces
Seats in this program are limited. Only 15 participants will be accepted for each phlebotomy class. This is a grant-based program, therefore certain criteria must be met in order to qualify for the Jumpstart program.
