About the Program

Program Duration:2 Semesters - Fall 2022 & Spring 2023
Orientation Date:Thursday, August 25th 2022
Classes Begin:Tuesday, August 30th
Classes End:To Be Determined in Spring 2023

Electricians install wiring systems, rewire or upgrade existing electrical systems. Maintenance electricians repair and install new electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches and electrical components. Electricians work at construction sites, in homes and in businesses or factories, schools and government buildings.

Basic Electrical Certificate to include:

  • ELPT1345 Commercial Wiring
  • ELPT1357 Industrial Wiring
  • ELTN1380 Co-op I for electricians (for those working in an electrical related job) OR ELPT1321 Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools (for those not working in an electrical related job)

Class Schedule:

Take courses with General Population in the evenings
+Evening Support Class Required

Upon completion, participants will receive:

  • Nine college credit hours
  • NCCER Basic Certificate Certification

Eligibility Requirements

Only applicants meeting all requirements, including TABE Math scores and having taken all Helper Certification courses with a previous Jumpstart Cohort, prior to the year 2019 will be eligible to attend orientation. Applicants with any college degrees (Associate's or higher) will not qualify. Applicants with "holds" on their record will not qualify unless "holds" are cleared before orientation.

No Cost to Eligible Students

Some expenses are covered including costs for tuition, TABE Math testing and loaner books in the basic certificate electrical program.

Limited Spaces

Seats in this program are limited. Only 5 participants will be accepted for each craft class. This is a grant-based program, therefore certain criteria must be met in order to qualify for the Jumpstart program.
