Brazosport College will offer on campus assistance at the Dow Academic Center for students needing to add or drop for the fall semester.  The deadline to add or drop a course is Thursday, August 27, 2020.

The on campus assistance for adding and/or dropping classes at the Dow Academic Center are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Beginning August 24, 2020, Gator Hall will be available for students Monday – Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. to access the college internet. Students should bring their own laptop, and will be required to wear a mask/facial covering and adhere to social distancing requirements while on campus. Because the room has been arranged for social distancing, it is limited to thirty (30) students at a time. Disinfecting wipes and cleaning supplies will be available.

Students, faculty, staff, and vendors entering campus facilities are expected to wear a facial mask or face covering over the nose and mouth. Everyone is encouraged to use their own personal mask or face covering. Once inside campus facilities, faculty, staff, students, and visitors are expected to maintain an appropriate social distance as well as to continue to use facial masks or face coverings as appropriate and in accordance with CDC guidelines. Some areas, such as CTE courses or life science labs, may require the use of face shields, in addition to face mask/coverings. Face shields will be provided to students and faculty in the required areas. If you are an instructor, you may wear a face shield instead of a face mask in addition to maintaining 6ft. of distance. Please note, the exceptions to face mask/face coverings are: if you are walking, running, or biking on the trails; if you are in your vehicle; if you are alone in your office with the door closed; if you are a welding student actively welding and wearing a welding face shield; and, if you are an instructor lecturing students, you may wear a face shield instead of a face mask in addition to maintaining 6ft. of distance. Otherwise, all individuals, students, faculty, staff, grounds keepers and contractors are to wear a face covering/mask.

As a reminder, Brazosport College adjusted its health screening process as employees, students, and visitors come to campus.  Instead of a drive-up health screening at the C-Wing, you are required to complete an online COVID-19 Health Screening questionnaire before arriving on campus.

The COVID-19 Health Screening questionnaire can be accessed in English or Spanish by visiting This questionnaire has been designed to be quick and simple to fill out, and can be easily accessed through all internet browsers, smartphones, and tablets.

Please note, the questionnaire has changed slightly.  Instructions are provided below as well at the top of the online Health Screening questionnaire.

Instructions for completing the Health Screening questionnaire:

Answer all of the questions by either leaving them in the "YES" position if you are experience the noted symptom or moving the slider left to the "NO" position if you are not experiencing the noted symptom, depending on whether the option applies to you.

  • If you are using a phone, we recommend you tap or swipe each option.
  • If you are using a computer, we recommend clicking each slider to make your selections.

Make sure to double-check your responses to ensure you are providing the most accurate information.

You will need to fill out the questionnaire each day you intend on coming to the Brazosport College campus. Once completed, you will be shown either a green check mark with “APPROVED FOR ENTRY” if you have passed, or a red exclamation mark with “STAY HOME, STAY SAFE” if you failed, as well as your name, and the date you completed the questionnaire.  If you arrive on campus without completing the Health Screening questionnaire, you can complete it using your smartphone.  If you do not have access to a computer or smartphone, computer stations are available at Human Resources located in the C-Wing lobby as well as in the Library located in the center of campus.  Other computer locations may be listed in future updates.

Brazosport College will have an increased focus on safety monitoring to promote safety protocols of social distancing, wearing a face covering or mask, practicing good hygiene, etc.  Once on campus, have either the confirmation email or confirmation screen of your completed questionnaire available as you may be asked at random to show proof of completing the self-screening tool.  Audits within the health screening system will also be conducted to ensure self-screenings are being completed.

Upon arrival to campus, you will be able to access all parking lots and enter campus through most entrances. To provide clarification, face masks or facial coverings are required for all students, employees, and visitors (ages 10 and up) any time on campus.  The exceptions are: if you are walking, running, or biking on the trails; if you are in your vehicle; if you are alone in your office with the door closed; if you are a welding student actively welding and wearing a welding face shield; and, if you are an instructor lecturing students, you may wear a face shield instead of a face mask in addition to maintaining 6ft. of distance.  Otherwise, all individuals, students, faculty, staff, grounds keepers and contractors are to wear a face covering/mask.

Anyone that does not pass the COVID-19 Health Screening questionnaire should not come to campus.  Everyone that passes should be prepared to show the confirmation email.

These procedures are subject to change, so it's vital that you check your Brazosport College email for updates before heading to campus.

For individuals needing to self-identify as affected by COVID-19 or notify Brazosport College of COVID-19 incidents involving students, faculty, or staff, please visit

The Brazosport College Board of Regents held its regular meeting on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

Board Member Robert Perryman discussed the Brazosport Foundation Fund Development report. The Clarion Guest Artists Series has been postponed for Fall 2020, but artists are lined up for a Spring 2021 Concert Series and sponsorship opportunities will be announced in the months ahead. The Women’s Lecture Luncheon Series has been scheduled for a Spring 2021 Series and a membership drive is currently underway. Dates scheduled include Andrew Och for Feb. 12, 2020 and Laura Ling for April 29, 2020.

In Information items, Brazosport College President Dr. Millicent Valek encouraged members of the Board of Regents to attend the 2020 ACCT Leadership Congress, which will be held virtually in October.

During the President’s report, Dr. Valek, updated the Board on the successful completion of Spring and Summer terms, as well as preparations being made for the Fall semester, which involved moving 64 percent of Brazosport College courses fully online. Dr. Valek updated the Board on a variety of new and innovative methods used to raise enrollment numbers, which included one-stop, in-person registration sessions, and is cautiously optimistic that numbers are showing improvement. Dr. Valek also updated the Board on the College’s move from a single point of campus entry to an online health screening application, which is more manageable and allows the campus to be accessed from various parking lots. Dr. Valek expressed gratitude to the College’s faculty and staff for creating new and innovative ways to keep students engaged during these challenging times.

During new business, the Board approved the request for Lincoln Electric simulator purchases for over $100,000; approved the evaluation of investment advisor, Bernstein Wealth Management; and accepted the financial report for July 2020.

David Marshall, Vice President, Financial Services & CFO, gave the 2020-2021 budget overview. Included in the discussion on the budget, Marshall Campbell, Vice President, Human Resources, recommended, and the Board approved, a proposal to consider a one-time annual incentive payment made to employees on the College’s salary structures at a later date in FY 2020-2021, which will allow the College to recognize its employees. The Board approved and adopted the 2020-2021 budget.

The Board also recorded a vote for this year’s No New Revenue Tax Rate of $.297866, which is a tax decrease of 0.77% as compared to last year’s tax rate, to be adopted at a future meeting. Since the proposed 2020-2021 budget will not require adoption of a tax rate that exceeds the no new tax (effective) rate, the Board canceled the August 17, 2020 and September 8, 2020 public hearings. The Board also decided to continue conducting Board meetings by videoconference.

The Board approved the employment of Kenan Caymaz as Physics Faculty for the 2020-2021 academic year and the employment of Savannah Wiggins as Shared Counselor for Brazosport College, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, and Sweeny ISD, for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The next Board of Regents regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 21, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
