COVID-19 Update for Students: May 6
RESTARTING COURSES TO COMPLETE THE SPRING 2020 SEMESTER
Beginning Monday, May 18, the College will complete the Spring semester for students whose hands-on Spring courses were placed on hold. In preparation to safely bring students back to campus, the College has hired a safety consultant to lead our Infection Control Strike Force team.
All students will be notified, individually, ahead of the May 18 start date regarding the updated safety protocols and plans specific to their courses. Those not adhering to the safety protocols will not be allowed access to classrooms/labs.
The College plans to implement the following safety protocols for all students, faculty, and staff when returning to campus on May 18:
- Face Coverings
All individuals entering campus facilities are expected to use a facial mask or face covering, as appropriate. (See BC COVID-19 FAQ’s for additional information). Once inside campus facilities, faculty, staff, students, and visitors are expected to maintain an appropriate social distance as well as to continue to use facial masks or face coverings, as appropriate and in accordance with CDC guidelines.
- Daily Health Screenings
Before entering campus, all students, staff, & faculty will be required to participate in health screenings that will include temperature checks.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Brazosport College will provide gloves when using shared equipment like microscopes and hand tools. Additionally, cleaning materials will be provided and easily accessible to disinfect shared items before and after use.
- Reconfigure Classrooms/Lab Spaces
The Infection Control Strike Force Team is currently going through each space to reconfigure class set-ups and review entry/exit to building to eliminate hazards when possible or engineer around them when they can’t be eliminated. Additionally, the team is reconfiguring some common areas such as removing benches in hallways, turning off drinking fountains, and putting up signage promoting social distancing.
- Faculty Training Sessions
The Infection Control Strike Force Team is preparing training sessions for returning faculty and staff, that will take place Wednesday to Friday, May 13-15.
All hands-on courses will follow CDC guidelines on social distancing and will follow state and local directives.
Remaining in Altered Operations
Although we are restarting courses, the college will remain in altered operations. Limited services may be available on campus. All services are available through our remote operations including student services and academic supports. Many BC staff and faculty, where possible, will continue to work remotely.
