Apr. 29: Employee COVID-19 Update

Thu Apr 29, 2021 at 11:00 PM America/Chicago

Per the Texas Department of State Health Services, as of Monday, March 29, 2021, anyone over 16 years of age is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Texas.  The COVID-19 vaccine adds one more layer of protection for our students, staff, faculty and community and helps give us the best chance of getting “back to normal” sooner. Local COVID-19 vaccine appointment information can be found at www.brazosport.edu/coronavirus/vaccine/.

Please note, for the Pfizer vaccine, recipients must be 16 years of age or older. For the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, recipients must be 18 years of age or older.

Students and Faculty! Brazosport College is participating in a national race/ethnicity survey. Student input on this survey will help us understand student experiences with racism, inclusion, and belonging. The survey is run by the Center for Community College Student Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin from April 15, 2021 to April 30, 2021.  Please look for more information that was sent to student and faculty email inboxes. Students should have received the survey link and an access code from leslie.cummings@brazosport.edu via email on the afternoon of Thursday, April 15, 2021. The survey takes around 10–12 minutes to complete.

Brazosport College health screening process is online for all employees, students, and visitors who come to campus. You will need to fill out the questionnaire each day you intend on coming to the Brazosport College campus.  The COVID-19 Health Screening questionnaire can be accessed in English or Spanish by visiting www.brazosport.edu/screening.  This questionnaire has been designed to be quick and simple to fill out, and can be easily accessed through all internet browsers, smartphones, and tablets.

Once completed, you will be shown either a green check mark with “APPROVED FOR ENTRY” if you have passed, or a red exclamation mark with “STAY HOME, STAY SAFE” if you failed, as well as your name, and the date you completed the questionnaire.

Anyone that does not pass the COVID-19 Health Screening questionnaire should not come to campus.  Everyone that passes should be prepared to show the confirmation email.

Brazosport College has increased focus on safety monitoring to promote safety protocols of social distancing, wearing a face mask/covering, practicing good hygiene, etc.  Once on campus, have either the confirmation email or confirmation screen of your completed questionnaire available as you may be asked at random to show proof of completing the self-screening tool.

Upon arrival to campus, you will be able to access all parking lots and enter campus through most entrances. To provide clarification, and in following recent recommendations from the CDC, face masks/coverings are required for all students, employees, and visitors (ages 10 and up) when inside a Brazosport College building.  The recent recommendation from the CDC continues to stress the importance of wearing a face mask/covering; however, it also provides exceptions for fully vaccinated individuals when performing certain activities where it can be safe to go without a face mask/covering, including when on a walk, run or biking outdoors.  As we continue to follow CDC guidelines, face mask/coverings are required, with a few exceptions. The exceptions are: if you are alone in your office with the door closed; if you are a welding student actively welding and wearing a welding face shield; if you are an instructor lecturing students, you may wear a face shield instead of a face mask in addition to maintaining 6 ft. of distance; if you are an employee of the Children’s Center; if you are a staff or volunteer of Kid’s College; and if you are outside in a group of 25 or less people unless physical distancing of 3 ft. is not possible.  To clarify, face shields are not considered face masks/coverings. If an individual chooses to wear a face shield, the individual must also wear a face mask/covering which fully covers the mouth and nose except as allowed in the exceptions listed previously. Otherwise, all individuals, students, faculty, staff, and contractors are to wear a face mask/covering.

For reference, the CDC defines “close contact” as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

These procedures are subject to change, so it's vital that you check your Brazosport College email for updates before heading to campus.

For individuals needing to self-identify as affected by COVID-19 or notify Brazosport College of COVID-19 incidents involving students, faculty, or staff, please visit https://brazosport.edu/coronavirus/report/

Please note, the COVID-19 Contact/Exposure Report Form is separate and apart from the Health Screening Questionnaire.  The COVID-19 Contact/Exposure Form should be completed if you have been exposed to someone or if you have tested positive for COVID-19.
