Welcome to BC

We are pleased to announce various offerings of our New Student Orientation for our BC students.  We are excited to offer face-to-face/in-person New Student Orientation sessions as well as online opportunities using Zoom.

We are able to offer our new summer, fall, and returning 2022-2023 Brazosport students New Student Orientation classes using our online Comevo module for (Part A-Step 1). We will also offer face-to-face (Part B-Step 2) in-person sessions, or the Online Zoom (Part B-Step 2) session. Our face-to-face sessions will begin for summer and fall enrollment on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 4:00, in Gator Hall. There will not be any opportunities to complete Part B until this date.

Completing your orientation at the beginning of your college career is a best practice and should be considered a priority for our new students. You will be off to a great college start by participating in our BC New Student Orientation!

Why New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation is an opportunity for students to learn how things work at Brazosport College, meet other students, as well as the faculty and staff at BC. We hope that by attending our orientation, you will feel welcomed and excited about your transition and journey to success at BC! Attending orientation is an expectation and requirement for all first-time college students at BC and for students who have never taken a college course before. Research also shows that students who attend New Student Orientation are more successful, earn higher grades, and more likely to complete their career and academic goals! So, join us to start your new journey to success!

Costs of NSO

New Student Orientation is free and held in various formats using an online module, face-to-face/in-person session, and a virtual model using the Zoom format. Although our BC New Student Orientation is free to all new students, but it could cost you, if you do not attend. By that we mean that you must complete our two-part orientation as soon as possible to keep holds from being placed on your registration account. This could cost you valuable time and cause you to miss out on registering for the classes that you may need to complete your degree plan at Brazosport College.

New News for Brazosport Students 2022-2023

To ensure that all new students are successful in completing their required New Student Orientation, at Brazosport College, we have begun implementing a new NSO process. As of Monday, March 28, 2022, at 8:00 a.m., students are no longer able to take New Student Orientation in reverse order of completion.

Students will now be expected to complete Part A Comevo (Step 1) first and then move to Part B Face-to-Face or Online Zoom (Step 2) of NSO. Upon successful completion of Part A, which is Comevo, students will be redirected to register for Part B sessions. BC students will no longer be able to complete Part B prior to completing Part A.

Our Part B (Step 2) sessions will continue to be held in-person/face-to-face and online using Zoom. If a student does not successfully complete Part A (Step 1), they will be unable to enroll in Part B (Step 2).

Our Part B (Step 2) New Student Orientation course offerings will be offered at specific times and days of the week. We hope that this will allow for preparation and consistency for all of our students and families.

Steps to Complete Your New Student Orientation

Step 1: Complete Your Registration and Enrollment Process

Use the Brazosport Student Toolkit for resources and support processes at:

www.brazosport.edu/toolkit

Also, refer to our Admissions and Registration page for New Students at:

www.brazosport.edu/start

Upon completion of applications, financial aid, transcripts, vaccinations, placement tests, meeting with advisors, and paying tuition/scholarships, it is time to attend orientation. Remember, our BC Orientation is required for all new students who have never taken a college course before.

Step 2: Completing BC Orientation (Online Comevo Module)

Part A-Step1 Comevo Online Module

The New Student Orientation for Brazosport College must be completed in two parts (Part A-Step1 and then Part B-Step 2).

Part A-Step 1 is the mandatory completion of a module titled “New Gator Online Orientation,” using the Comevo Online Module management system. Upon successful completion of the Comevo Online Module, you will be redirected to register for the Part B-Step 2 opportunity. You may not register for Part B-Step 2 until then. It is vital that you follow the correct process to complete your orientation. You must pass the quizzes and take the survey, in Comevo, prior to being redirected to Part B-Step 2. Failure to do so may cause holds to be placed on your account. Please print your final certificate of completion for your records.

This online module includes 16 sections and has quizzes after each section. Once all sections are complete, you will take a final test. You must answer 70% of questions correctly in order to pass the final test and earn credit for the online orientation module.  If you do not pass, you will be able to take the test again until it is passed. The entire online orientation module will take you about 1.5 hours, uninterrupted, to complete. This is an individually paced online course. Please print your completion certificate or take a picture of your certificate for your records.

For you to receive credit for the online module, you must sign into the system using your BC student ID number, correctly, each time. Do not enter the orientation as a guest, as the system will not track your progress and you will not receive credit for completion. We will use the tracking and timing system provided in Comevo to issue credit and remove possible holds that may be on your account. Please feel free to contact our office upon completion, and we can verify completion with-in our data base.

Again, Comevo is Part A-Step 1, which is the first part of the BC New Student Orientation Process. You must also complete Part A, first, prior to participating in Part B-Step 2, which will be held face-to-face/in-person on campus or by using the Zoom Online format. Registration information regarding Part B-Step 2 will be available once you complete Comevo Part A-Step 1.

You may complete the online New Gator Online Orientation module, by Comevo, at www.brazosport.edu/onlineorientation. Please use the correct credentials at each log-in. Failure to do so could cause you NOT to receive proper credit. We advise that students take a picture of their log-in credentials when first logging in to use later, if needed.

*This Comevo module does not have a substitute and is required as Part A-Step 1 of your official enrollment as a new student. Find out more information about Part B below.

Step 3: Completing BC Orientation Face-to-Face/In-Person/ Virtual Opportunities

Part B-Step 2 Face-to-Face/In-Person/Virtual Zoom

The New Student Orientation for Brazosport College must be completed in two parts (Part A-Step 1 and Part B-Step 2). Students should, first complete-Part A, using the New Student Orientation online module. Once you have successfully completed Part A-Step 1, you will be able to register to attend Part B-Step 2. Successfully means: complete each course, pass the quiz, and take the end of session survey. Once that has been done, you will be redirected to register for a Part B-Step 2 New Student Orientation Session.

Part B-Step 2 is the mandatory completion of a face-to-face/in-person New Student Orientation held at Brazosport College, in Gator Hall. Part B-Step 2 may also be an online session using Zoom as the platform. You must have a Zoom account to participate in this session. Please expect each session to last a minimum of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Upon completion of Part A-Step 1, students must independently register for our In-Person or Online Zoom Part B session using our online registration form which will be found at the end of the Comevo online course. It is extremely important to register immediately upon completion of Part A-Step 1 to ensure that we can prepare an engaging experience for all our students and parents in attendance either online or in-person.

All in-person sessions will be held at BC and will be limited to the first eighty students who register online. Waiting until the last minute to pick a session may cause you to miss out on your orientation selections and cause you to have holds placed on your registration account.

When you register for your orientation, you will receive an email confirming your registration prior to the actual session. Please print your confirmation or take a picture your screen to ensure documentation of registration for Part B-Step 2.

We are also excited to offer an Information Fair on the day of our In-Person New Student Orientations. This Information Fair will be an opportunity to interact with students, faculty, and staff on our wonderful campus. On orientation day, please arrive 45 minutes early to have a chance to play games, win prizes, and see all the great programs that BC has to offer. Parents are welcome to attend the in-person sessions, with their new student, and get an overview of college life at BC! We do ask that alternative arrangements be made for childcare, so that students get the most out of orientation.

Part B (Step 2) course offerings, will be held at specific times and days of the week. We hope that this will allow for consistency in communication and preparation for all of our BC staff and students.

Releasing New Student Orientation Holds

Holds for New Student Orientation will be released once a student has completed Both Parts of NSO which include Part A-Step 1 & Part B-Step 2 of our two-part orientation. Please remember that Part A must be successfully completed before attempting to register for Part B-Step 2.

Our department will verify completion of both parts of NSO and issue credit to students two to three business days after the official verification process has been completed for both parts. Students will need to make sure to attend the entire orientation and complete the orientation survey to receive credit and to have holds released. If you will be late or need to leave early, you will need to choose another orientation date. Completing both parts of your orientation will prevent you from having holds placed on your account and allow you to register for upcoming courses. Remember, you must complete two parts of orientation to have possible holds removed. Please schedule two and a-half hours for In Person New Student Orientation and Information Fair. You won’t want to miss it!

Part B-Step 2 Zoom Virtual Opportunities

Our New Student Orientations will also be offered as a Zoom Online Session on Saturdays, at 10:00 a.m., once a month. The Zoom Sessions will also be considered Part B-Step 2. You will have the opportunity to register for these Zoom sessions after successful completion of Part A-Step 1 which is the New Student Orientation online module.

Once you have registered for the online Zoom session, you will receive a registration confirmation email. 24 hours prior to the actual Zoom New Student Orientation Session, you will receive the Zoom link for your session. Please do not share this link with anyone.

Our Virtual Zoom registrations will be limited to the first 60 participants, so please review your calendars, and make your selection as soon as possible after successful completion of Part A-Step 1.

Our virtual sessions require a Zoom account to participate. If you select the Part B-Step 2 Zoom Saturday Session, please log-in early to ensure connectivity of internet and to establish the use of your Zoom account. If you have to log off early for some reason, you may not receive credit and will have to register for another virtual for face-to-face session. Please schedule one and one-half hours for your virtual session.

Please do not wait until the end to register for your sessions, as we will not add sessions. We want you to have a successful college career at BC, so please complete your New Student Orientation as soon as possible.
