Welcome to BC

Welcome to Brazosport College! Home of the Brazosport Gators! The New Student Orientation Page is here to provide you with information regarding our orientations, programs, and support systems specifically for our new students.

In response to COVID-19 and our altered operations schedule, all of our on-campus and face-to-face New Student Orientation sessions have been cancelled. We are excited to now offer spring 2020-2021 New Student Orientation classes through the use of our online Comevo module and our new virtual platform using Zoom.

We are happy to announce our summer and fall orientation dates are now available. Our first summer New Student Orientations will be hosted April 27 and April 29. We will host our virtual orientations the same week as One Stop Registration in the months of April and May 2021.

Why New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation is an opportunity for students to learn how things work at Brazosport College, meet other students, as well as the faculty and staff at BC. We hope that by attending our orientation, you will feel welcomed and excited about your transition and journey to success at BC! Attending orientation is an expectation and requirement for all first-time college students at BC and for students who have never taken a college course before. Research also shows that students who attend New Student Orientation are more successful, earn higher grades, and more likely to complete their career and academic goals! So, join us to start your new journey to success!

Costs of NSO

New Student Orientation is free and held in various formats using an online module, virtual model, and an online class using the D2L format. Although our BC New Student Orientation is free to all new students, it could cost you, if you do not attend. By that we mean that you must complete our two-part orientation as soon as possible to keep holds from being placed on your registration account. This could cost you valuable time and cause you to miss out on registering for the classes that you may need to complete your degree plan.

Steps to Complete Your New Student Orientation

Step 1: Complete Your Registration and Enrollment Process

Use the Brazosport Student Toolkit for resources and support processes at:

www.brazosport.edu/toolkit

Also, refer to our Admissions and Registration page for New Students at:

www.brazosport.edu/start

Upon completion of applications, financial aid, transcripts, vaccinations, placement tests, meeting with advisors, and paying tuition/scholarships, it is time to attend orientation. Remember, our BC Orientation is required for all new students who have never taken a college course before.

Step 2: Completing BC Orientation (Online Comevo Module)

Part A

The New Student Orientation for Brazosport College must be completed in two parts (Part A and Part B).

Part A is the mandatory completion of a module titled “New Gator Online Orientation,” using Comevo as the management system.

This online module includes 16 sections and has quizzes after each section. Once all sections are complete, you will take a final test. You must answer 70% of questions correctly in order to pass the final test, and earn credit for the online orientation module.  If you do not pass, you will be able to take the test again until it is passed. The entire online orientation module will take you about 1.5 hours, uninterrupted, to complete.

For you to receive credit for the online module, you must sign into the system using your BC student ID number. Do not enter the orientation as a guest, as the system will not track your progress and you will not receive credit for completion. We will use the tracking and timing system provided in Comevo to issue credit and remove possible holds that may be on your account.

Again, this is Part A of the BC New Student Orientation Process. You must also complete Part B.

Complete the online New Gator Online Orientation module, by Comevo, at www.brazosport.edu/onlineorientation.

All virtual sessions will be held using Zoom and will be limited to the first sixty students who register in each session. There are multiple sessions available for our new students. Please complete your registration form and virtual class as soon as possible. Waiting until the last minute may cause you to miss out on your orientation selections and cause you to have holds placed on your accounts.

When you register for your virtual orientation, you will receive an email, with the link, one day prior to your actual session date and time. On orientation day, you will need to join the Virtual NSO Meeting using the link provided and at the specified time.

Remember: In order for you to participate in the BC Virtual Online Orientation (Part B), you will need to create a Zoom account on your phone, desktop, or tablet before your orientation date.

Register for the New Student Virtual Orientation session.
