In-Person

In-person tutoring is done in the Math Center and is free for Brazosport College students.

In-Person: Drop In Tutoring

Drop-in tutoring refers to on campus tutoring that happens face-to-face in the Math Center rooms, E.201 and E.203. This is the most used type of tutoring. One on one tutoring is not guaranteed, but during the times when the Math Center is not busy, you might receive attention that is more specialized.

In-Person: By Appointment Only Tutoring

By Appointment Only tutoring is for face-to-face tutoring. These 1.5 hour sessions are held in the Math Center rooms, E.201 and E.203, which are located in the Student Success Center (SSC).

Scheduling must be done ahead of time, through our scheduling service, Tutor Matching Service (TMS). Please make your request at least 24 hours in advance. To schedule a tutoring session, click on the TMS logo located under Quick Links, on the right side of the page.  You will need to verify your BC student email through TMS to receive tutoring for free.

In-Person: Group Tutoring

A group of five or more can request a group tutoring session. These sessions are ideal for groups that would like a review session for exams, or help with assignments or projects, if instructor approved. Group sessions are held in the SSC study rooms or conference room. To schedule a group session, email the Math Center at mathcenter@brazosport.edu. Please request at least 24 hours in advance.

In-Person: Embedded Tutoring

Some course might have a tutor that is embedded.  This tutor can give the course's students a more tailored tutoring experience because they attend class, review the course material, are current on course assignments and exams, and can offer study sessions.

Online

Online tutoring is free for Brazosport College students.

What the tutor expects of the student:

  • The student will communicate with the tutor through Tutor Matching Service or email, if necessary. The tutor might request to know what concepts you are working on, so that they are prepared for the session.
  • The student to be on time to the session.
  • The student has all materials necessary ready and easily within reach, if needed.
  • The student has reviewed the material before the session. This includes, but is not limited to, attending live online classes, watching instructor videos, reading the book and class notes, attempting the homework and reviews, etc.
  • The student will come with specific questions, as to keep the session focused and efficient.
  • The student will give the session their full attention.

What the student can expect of the tutor:

  • The tutor make sure the student will have a link to the session, if it is online. The tutor might also ask what concepts you are working on, so that they are prepared for the session.
  • The tutor will have as much materials within reach, as they have available, to refer to, if necessary.
  • The tutor will keep session as focused and efficient as possible.
  • The tutor to give the session their full attention.
  • The tutor to be patient with you.
  • The tutor will NOT do the work for you.
  • The tutor is NOT a replacement for your instructor or class.

Community

Private Tutoring is not free for Brazosport College students.

The Math Center is often contacted by the community about private tutoring, which is paid by the person seeking assistance.   Not all Math Center tutors offer private tutoring.  For the tutors that  do offer private tutoring, sessions are scheduled outside of their Math Center work hours.

Some of the students are Brazosport College students that might have scheduling conflicts with the Math Center hours or seek  one-on-one tutoring.

Other private tutoring is for community members that are not Brazosport College, such as students in K-12, or those seeking exam prep for assessments not offered by the Brazosport College Assessment Center.

Scheduling for private tutoring is done through the Tutor Matching Service (TMS) scheduling system.  Tutees have the option to pay for their sessions using a credit card or PayPal.

To schedule a private tutoring session, or to learn more about Tutor Matching Service, click on the TMS logo located under Quick Links, on the right side of the page.
