Graduation vs. Commencement

Graduation and commencement are typically confused as the same event. Graduation is the process of being awarded a degree. Commencement is an event the college provides free of charge to students at the end of the spring semester. The graduation application allows you to notify us if you plan to participate in commencement.

Whether or not you choose to attend the commencement ceremony, you still need to apply for graduation. Actual degrees are not awarded at the commencement ceremony and graduation status will not be reviewed unless you apply for graduation.

Preparing for Commencement

The deadline to participate in the May commencement ceremony is April 13.

Caps, gowns and announcements are provided free of charge at Grad Fest. Be sure to periodically visit the Grad Fest website for dates and important information.

Commencement Rehearsals

Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT)

Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

• Associate of Arts (AA)
• Associate of Science (AS)
• Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT)

Applying for Graduation

1. Check Degree Requirements

Ensure that you have met all degree requirements by performing a degree audit on MyBC or reviewing degree requirements in the Brazosport College Online Catalog.

2. Clear Holds

Transcripts and diplomas will only be released to students with no holds on their account. Log onto MyBC to view your account status.

3. Apply for Graduation

Download the Graduation Application using the button below and submit it to the Registrar's Office. The Registrar's Office will receive your application and will review your record to determine if all degree requirements have been met. Once your application has been received, you will be notified of your degree status via mail 2 - 4 weeks after your submission. You cannot graduate without submitting an application.
