Applying for Loans

When you receive a student loan, you are borrowing money to attend a college. You must repay the loan as well as interest that accrues.

Step 1: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

To apply for a federal student loan, you must first complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. To learn more about how to complete the FAFSA, check out our FAFSA page.

Step 2: Complete the Loan Application

Students interested in applying for loans must request a loan application from the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office and read the Brazosport College Loan Policy online before submitting the application.

Please Note: We must receive your FAFSA in order to provide you with the loan application.

Step 3: Complete the Required Counseling and Documents

Entrance counseling is required at the beginning of each loan period. Entrance counseling is a tool to ensure you understand your obligation to repay the loan.

You'll also need to sign a Master Promissory Note. By signing the Master Promissory Note, you are agreeing to the terms of the loan.

Students who have dropped below half-time enrollment (6 credit hours), graduate, or leave school

Exit counseling provides important information to prepare you to repay your federal student loan(s). Students who have received a loan(s) must complete exit counseling each time they drop below half-time enrollment, graduate, or leave school.
