In order to receive Federal Funds (sometimes referred to as Title IV aid), such as Pell Grants or Federal Loans, you must meet basic eligibility criteria. Remember, this criteria will continue to apply throughout the time you’re receiving aid—not just when you first fill out the FAFSA form and are awarded aid.

In order to qualify, you must:

  • Have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; or be home-schooled in accordance with State law requirements.
  • Be either a US Citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number (eligible non-citizen)
  • Not be in default of any educational loans at any school attended.
  • Not owe a refund on grants at any school attended.
  • be registered with Selective Service, if you’re a male (you must register between the ages of 18 and 25);
  • Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program.
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress in a course of study.
  • Sign a statement of educational purpose, stating that the you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes.

The financial aid office will review the your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for verification of type of high school completion or equivalent. Evidence of your date of graduation or a recognized equivalent such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate will documented in your financial aid file.

If you identify as "Home-Schooled," you are required to provide a notarized copy of your high School Transcript with date of graduation.

If you identify as "None of the Above" and are not a Dual Credit student, you will be sent a letter stating you do not qualify for Title IV aid.
